Lineup Optimization – Will It Matter in 2018?

Do lineups even matter? We certainly think they do. We argue that they do. Oh, and you better believe we will die on a theoretical hill arguing that they do. We all have our ideal lineup – the one we are so sure is better than any manager would use. We have the answer, we think, to make the team better. And the numbers might even support us. Through projections, we can come up with…

Braves Add Ezequiel Carrera On Minor League Deal

The Braves have signed Ezequiel Carrera just a couple of days after he was released by the Toronto Blue Jays. Immediately, Braves fans saw this signing as the end of Lane Adams, who has struggled this spring after adjusting his swing in the offseason. But who is Carrera? Let’s find out. Carrera was signed out of Venezuela over a decade ago by the Mets. A speedy outfielder, Carrera was once part of a winter-2008 three-team…

Transaction Tuesday: Biddle, Pache, Soroka, Allard

Welcome to the first Transaction Tuesday of 2018. During the season, this will be your weekly recap of the different moves the Braves’ organization makes from promotions to releases to injuries. When relevant, I’ll also point out what option year this is for the player. You can find a list of option year information for the Braves here. As an added bonus, I’ve provided a projected roster for Gwinnett. Period: 3/6 – 3/12 Atlanta Braves…

Looking at a Ronald Acuña Jr. Extension

As we get closer and closer to the end of spring training, the growing expectation is the Braves will start Ronald Acuna Jr. in AAA to begin the season. If you look at his numbers last year, his production this spring, and the current need for an upgrade in the outfield, that notion doesn’t make a lot of sense. Only when you view it through lens of baseball’s economic system does the idea even begin…

Dustin Peterson Ready for Another Breakout?

The 2017 season ended nearly as sadly for Dustin Peterson as it began. The latter included a broken hamate bone in his wrist. The conclusion saw Peterson reach base safely just 18 times over the final 85 PA (.212 OBP) with just two doubles. He struck out a third of the time he stepped into the batter’s box. All told, Peterson hit .248 with an identical OBP and SLG of .318. He homered once and…

The Braves’ New Guys on the Sidelines

Some familiar faces won’t be seen in SunTrust Park this season. At the end of last season, Braves management relieved Terry Pendleton and Eddie Perez of their duties as coaches for the team, thus eliminating the last of the Bobby Cox staffing era. There hasn’t been much said about the duo and their future with the team since the end of last season. After their release, many thought that the pair would be placed in…
